☕️ Losing its virginity
Starbucks has pioneered a number of coffee trends, including the infamous PSL. And now, the company is set to push the limits of coffee once again with their answer to what mixing two drinks at a soda fountain looks like — coffee infused with cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil. The Oleato coffee line, which debuts in Italy this month and in Southern California later this spring, represents a “transformational moment” for the company that “brings together an alchemy of nature's finest ingredients."
😳 Not all is well
While Starbucks prepares for its next coffee revolution, things aren’t as rosy on its bottled drinks side. PepsiCo, which bottles and distributes Starbucks’ ready-to-drink beverages has recalled a whopping 300,000 Starbucks vanilla Frappuccinos bottles for potentially containing glass, according to the FDA. The recall includes bottles with best-by dates of March 8, May 29, June 4, and June 10.

History of hyperhydration
Nothing says “I worked out today” more than a bottle of Gatorade — a drink of champions and people who like the color orange. The drink, which claims to replenish electrolytes and carbs lost during exercise and makes running a marathon while lazing on a couch a reality, was developed in the 1960s at the University of Florida.
Named after their football team, Gators, it was the first drink of its type and it quickly gained popularity with other sports teams and athletes. Eventually, it was acquired in 2001 by PepsiCo for a cool $13 billion.
More than just radioactive water
Fast forward two decades and a marathon sprint planning session, PepsiCo announced its future plans with Gatorade at the Super Bowl this year. Gatorade won’t just be a spa treatment for the winning coach. PepsiCo wants it to be the answer to your post cheat meal Google search "What can I eat to lose weight?”.
In a move to give Gator the alligator new play dates at the next board meeting, PepsiCo is officially bringing together all of their sports and fitness brands — Gatorade, Fast Twitch, Muscle Milk, Propel, and Evolve — under the Gatorade umbrella.
This newly formed fully connected ecosystem will make using a competitive product feel as painful as using an Apple Watch on an Android phone. You can now expect Gatorade-branded sports gels, protein shakes, and much more.
It’s all about the brand
Gatorade controls about 63% of the $13 billion U.S. sports drink market today, which is expected to grow to $17 billion by 2027. This helps explain Gatorade’s ambition of wanting to be a part of their consumers’ entire day by tapping into PepsiCo’s vast roster to create a “brought to you by Gatorade” type of branding for all athletic needs.
What next?
Prior to this move, PepsiCo tested the Gatorade-centric strategy and found that an increase in purchase intent was as immediate as Amazon’s “One Click Buy” option — based on brand trust, integrated storytelling across brands, and an understanding that the product is Gatorade blue tick verified.
These results have made the brand even more bullish on its expansion prospects. But for now… We leave you with 3 Gatorade facts you probably didn’t know:
Gatorade has been used at every Olympic Games since 1968.
NASA sent Gatorade to space because hydrating while moonwalking is a jam.
